A Modern Italian Viola
by Benvenuto Botturi, Brescia, 1967

Botturi was born in Gambera, Brescia in 1882. He studied with Diguini at Cremona, and exhibited two violins at the Cremona Exhibition in 1937. He is known for his careful workmanship and good tonal qualities.

This viola is a 16 inch model. The handsome two-piece back features medium flame maple descending from the joint. The varnish is the maker's typical golden-amber oil varnish. The tone is suave and sympathetic. A characteristic example of this period.
