A
Splendid American Viola
by
Dale W. Stevens, 1980
Our most exciting viola is
one by late American maker Dale Stevens. All the good players just
have to play it when they come to Mo's! This splendid viola "speaks"
to the player with an articulation having the clarity of a human
voice. The inspiring robust tone will carry to the back of the
largest hall.
This 1980 viola features the
finest selection of woods and is covered in a strikingly luminous
orange varnish. A versatile instrument, this viola could be used
for solo, orchestral or chamber work.
Dale Walker Stevens was a
gifted American maker who is featured in Thomas Wenberg's The
Violinmakers Of The United States. He was born in St. George, UT
in 1924 and worked in Salt Lake City. Stevens made his first
violin in 1950. He also made bows with handmade fittings.
Mr. Stevens received several
certificates from the Violin Society of America competitions,
including: Workmanship and Tone, 1978; and Tone, 1980 and 1982.
Stevens was the overall winner for a violin he entered in the 1983
