Oskar Hermann Seidel
This is a handsome Guarneri copy made
about 1925 in the workshop of Oskar Hermann Seidel of
Markneurkirchen. This East German town has been famous for string
instrument making for over two hundred years.
This violin is built on a player-friendly
Guarneri pattern. The compact upper bouts make it easy to
negotiate the higher positions.
The violin is covered in a beautifully
transparent red-orange varnish on a gold ground. It has been
lightly antiqued in the best Markneukirchen tradition .
The tone is robust and projects well. This
is a good all-around violin especially suited for orchestral use.
