A Classic Parisian silver and ebony mounted
violin bow by Eugene Sartory (1871-1946)
Bows by Eugene Sartory are amongst the
most sought after of the French school. By virtue of the quality,
consistency and abundance of his work Sartory is ranked amongst
the elite of the Parisian makers. Our example is a lovely medium
brown chestnut color of round section. The bow is twice stamped E.
Sartory A' Paris, on the back of the stick and under the lapping,
indicating that it was made after 1920. The ebony frog is mounted
in silver and fitted with Parisian eyes. The button is of plain
silver; the lapping of silver; the grip and collar of lizard. This
bow possesses that smooth, effortless tracking so characteristic
of the French school, and so helpful and inspiring to the player.
