Simon
Josef Violins --
an R.E. Menzel Exclusive!
Russian-born Simon Josef makes fine
violins in Romania with his two sons. These stunning instruments
are made on a model inspired by the famous "Messiah" Stradivarius
of 1716.
Simon Josefs are fashioned of beautifully
figured Carpathian Maple and spruce aged for over thirty five
years. They are signed by hand internally on the upper treble bout
of the top plate. Josefs are hand varnished in a beautiful deep
golden-brown finish over a translucent ground which enhances the
natural beauty of this remarkable maple. Some pieces have a "crushed
velvet" appearance. They are tastefully antiqued. Their tone
is consistently broad, large and smooth, and of a mature quality
that one would expect only in violins many times their price.
