A Fine Violin by Giulio Degani
Venice, 1899
Giulio and his father, Eugenio, are
amongst the most celebrated makers from the modern Venetian
school. Their instruments are prized by players and collectors
alike.
Giulio was a pupil of his father at
Venice, later moving to Cincinnati about 1935. Our violin is made
on an enticing broad model with f holes inspired by Joseph
Guarneri del Gesu. The varnish is a buttery golden-amber on a
golden ground, and is very lightly antiqued. The stunning back is
fashioned from two pieces of maple with brilliant flame,
resembling a Joseph Rocca.
The tone is firm, clear and powerful with
a distinct Italianesque character. Our Giulio Degani violin is an
impressive addition to any connoisseur or player's collection.
