Workshop of Herman Pfretzschner
Hermann Richard Pfretzschner was one of the
most esteemed bowmakers in Germany. He studied first under his father,
Richard. Pfretzschner was the last pupil of J.B. Vuillaume from
1870-1872. He founded his workshop in 1880 in Markneukirchen, Germany.
The King of Saxony awarded Pfretzschner with an appointment in 1901.
The workshop also supplied bows to the Royal Court of Dresden and
to the symphony orchestras and Conservatory
in that city.
This bow is made on the workshop's
characteristic Tourte model. The stick is fashioned of pernambuco
of a rich orange- brown color, and is of octagonal section. The
bow is strong and elastic, the two qualities most desired in a bow
but not often found together! Ebony/ nickel mounted. Weight: 62.2
grams.
